Winter 2019 Painting Classes with Curney Nuffer
Curney Nuffer’s Winter 2019 Painting Classes
January 7 – February 25 | Mondays: 1:00pm – 4:00pm
January 8 – February 26 | Tuesdays: 10:00am – 1:00pm
Fee: $240, for eight classes. A supply list and more class info will be sent to every student via email in advance. No refunds once classes have started.
Beginners, intermediate and advanced levels are welcome. Classes are primarily focused on oil painting, but Curney welcomes artists who work in acrylic and watercolor. The use of oil paint — from brushes and canvases to palette and technique — is the emphasis in these classes. Curney will demonstrate how the use of a limited palette emphasizes the importance of color, value, intensity, and placement of paint. Composition and the use of photos versus using still-life setups and plein air landscapes will be discussed. Demos and exercises are combined with painting time, or artists have the option to paint on their own with help from Curney throughout the class.
To register: Email email@example.com or call Susan Dull at (804) 914 – 9791.
Your check holds your place in class. After registering, please make a check out for $240.00 to Susan Dull and mail to: 304 St. Davids Lane, Richmond, 23221. Classes may be made up anytime during the semester during the other class day/time. No cancellations once classes have started

Curney Nuffer is offering painting classes for artists who would like to learn about painting the nude. A three hour class once a week to explore sketching first, then building the form of the human body by painting dark to light. The model will be lit and emphasis will be placed on seeing the values of the skin tones as well as using color.
The palette that Curney uses is specially mixed by Students in advance and originated at the Art Students League in New York. It requires the use of only 7 tube colors of paint and white. It is key to building a strong foundation for painting the human form based upon simplicity. Even if you don’t want to paint figures or portraits, the lessons you will learn will greatly improve your future work.
A supply list and more class info will be sent to every student via email in advance. No refunds once classes have started.
“The nude does not simply represent the body, but relates it, by analogy, to all structures that have become part of our imaginative experience”. ——Sir Kenneth Clark, former Director the National Gallery, London.
