Summer 2017 Painting and Drawing Classes with Curney Nuffer
Classes - Currently a teacher at the Crossroads Art Center, Curney offers classes for beginning to advanced students, mostly in oil paints. Each student receives a file with a suggested materials list, information on mixing a palette and applying paint, some thoughts on drawing and painting and a sheet on the basic construction of the human face and body, all his original materials. Curney has also take students abroad to visit museums in Italy, Portugal and England and to plein air paint in beautiful rural settings.
PAINTING CLASSES: Tuesdays, June 20 – August 1* | 9:00 a.m. – noonCost: $180.00 for 6 Classes
* No classes the week of July 4
Beginners, intermediate and advanced levels are welcome. Classes are primarily focused on oil painting, but Curney welcomes artists who work in acrylic and watercolor. The use of oil paint — from brushes and canvases to palette and technique — is the emphasis in these classes. Curney will demonstrate how the use of a limited palette emphasizes the importance of color, value, intensity, and placement of paint. Composition and the use of photos versus using still-life setups and plein air landscapes will be discussed. Demos and exercises are combined with painting time, or artists have the option to paint on their own with help from Curney throughout the class. A “New Student Info File” will be emailed to new students.
DRAWING CLASSES: Tuesdays, June 20 – August 1 | 9:00 a.m. – noon
Cost: $180.00 for 6 Classes
To help bring out or rekindle your inner artist, here is a class for those of us who have always wanted to explore drawing without having to read an instructional book or locate a good teacher. Curney Nuffer believes in simplicity and using 4 principals for drawing (as well as painting): the use of plumb lines, angles, mapping and negative space. Concepts that might seem too complicated or confusing are composition and perspective, which are also taught with demos and illustrations from Curney’s and other artists’ work. Each week of the class is a little different and will give you an opportunity to explore the ancient art of drawing in a low-key and very interesting environment. This is a great class for beginners as well as those who want to revisit the basics and strengthen their drawing skills. The supply list is simple and will be emailed to you when you register.
