The throughline of my woodworking is finding a slab of live-edge wood that has exceptional grain, then crafting a piece of furniture that is as beautiful as it is useful. In the same way a jeweler designs a pendant to showcase an exceptional stone, I’ve designed this table to showcase two stunning pieces.

Artist's Statement:

A quote by Jim Harrison hangs in my shop; “A tree, by its nature, seeks its future moment by moment”. I want the furniture I make to be part of that journey. Having been a woodworker for more than 40 years, it is a privilege, and one I don’t take lightly, to work with this medium in a way that honors that life of the tree from which it came.

I specialize in unique, hand-crafted tables and benches, made with native hardwoods sourced from several sawmills in North Carolina and Virginia. Inspired by the life and work of George Nakashima, most of my designs feature 'live edge' slabs, where the intrinsic beauty of the wood helps me create a functional piece that is lived with and enjoyed by the person it serves.

For each project I select woods that have exceptional grain, color, and character. I almost always use a clear, hand-rubbed finish to bring out the natural beauty of the wood. Most of my pieces are commissions made to meet the specific needs of my customers. But I appreciate the chance to be a part of this special show, The Gift of Trees.
