Q. What inspired you to get into the arts?
A. I was born in Chengdu, China in 1963. I was deaf due to illness when I was three years old. Introduced by my parents, I learned to paint with many famous painters. After settling in Hong Kong in 1994, I have followed the path of art for 40 years.
Q. Tell me about your creative process / How do you approach new projects
A. I like to draw from life. No matter where I go, if I see something beautiful, I will paint it from life. Travel is also an important part of my creative process. When I travel, I paint in watercolor and sometimes oil. In the process of creation, I will constantly think and explore new things. In my silent world, I will silently pour my inner passion into my works bit by bit, so that the villas, villages, grasslands, and forests are full of the vitality of nature. These plants, trees, mountains, and creeks seem to have infinite meaning to me, leading me to use colorful brushes to describe them in depth and detail. Recently, I prefer to use bright colors and rich decorations to create a strong visual effect.
Q. Who and/or what are your biggest inspirations and how do they influence your work?
A. I like nature the most. I have 40 years of experience traveling in different natural scenes. So far, I have been to 80 different countries, and have visited many European countries. The strong artistic atmosphere and beautiful scenery of Western countries have deeply inspired my creative passion and brought me a steady stream of inspiration.
Q. What is your favorite subject matter to focus on and why?
A. I love all kinds of life and all natural things I draw. I'm always trying something new; I don't even like to eat the same food every day! My subject rotates between the beautiful things I see - a person, a mountain, a flower. Whenever I see something that excites me, I draw it.
Q. What are you working on now?
A. Recently, I am creating a huge mountain scene, and sometimes I work on smaller paintings. Now we have turned the garage at home into an art studio.
